The season wasn’t supposed to reach this level of desperation so quickly for the Giants (0-2). The selection of running Saquon Barkley, the return of Odell Beckham, Jr. and a renewed commitment to Eli Manning was supposed to have the Giants talking about the playoffs and not talking another disastrous season.
The two losses is causing grumbling in the city, with some fans second-guessing the Giants decision to select Barkley with the No. 2 pick instead of a quarterback. Someone like Sam Darnold, who has given the New York Jets a dose of energy and hope for the future.
The Texans (0-2) believe they already have their franchise quarterback in Deshaun Watson. However, Watson was expected to resume his stellar play before he suffered a season-ending torn ACL in November. Watson has been struggling and is essentially still playing through his rookie season.
Watson’s inexperience was evident during the final play of the Texans game against the Tennessee Titans. Needing to move into range to attempt a game-tying field goal, Watson held onto the football too long before completing a pass to wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins. By the time he completed the pass, the game was over and the Texans lost 20-17.
